"Turf and Surf" Grows Female Participation in Wanderers
A novel "Turf and Surf" trial between Wanderers FC, Killiney Bay Surf Club, Sligo RFC and a surf school in Strandhill, Co. Sligo has helped players from both clubs increase their passion for rugby.
The brainchild of Wanderers' Timothy Robinson, this was a simple crossover between two sports for girls which began in Killiney.
A Learn to Surf night with with the club's surfboards balance trainers, indo boards and skate boards at Wanderers gave the girls a teaser. Then the club took all the girls to Sligo the following Saturday to play a game.
Parents, coaches and players then had a lesson in Strandhill to increase the interest in both sports.
As a link with the club, Sligo's U12 and U14 sides have been invited to Wanderers to play in Merrion Road. Congrats to both clubs on an excellent initiative.
