Head Coach's Message
The senior squad have been working hard since mid-July in preparation for the new season and it has been great to welcome some new faces into the group since last year.
Division 2B of the All Ireland League has arguably been the most competitive and exciting AIL division over the past few seasons and having narrowly missed out on the playoff places last season we are fully focused on being in the promotion hunt come May '24.
There have been some changes to our coaching ticket over the off-season. As Fergus McFadden, Mick Finlay and Marty Mahon move on from our coaching group, I'd like to thank them all for all their hard work, support and commitment throughout the 22/23 season. We look forward to seeing them down in Merrion Road again during the season ahead.
For the 23/24 season I am delighted that Conor O'Brien and Ed Byrne have joined our coaching ranks. Conor will be coaching our backs and defence, while Ed will be our scrum coach. Two hugely talented players, both will bring a lot of knowledge, energy and top level experience to the squad as they embark on their coaching journeys. Mick McGrath will again be our S&C player/coach and has been putting the boys through their paces over the last few months.
Aside from coaching, we are again blessed to have retained the services of our Manager Shane Galvin and our Physio Fionn Daly. Two of the best in the business, they add immeasurable value to the Senior Squad. Management duties for the 2XV will remain in the capable hands of Declan Donnelly and John Mockler.
Geoff Mullan will again captain the 1XV and will be ably assisted by a number of experienced lieutenants. Geoff is a natural leader and a man who has the respect of all in the club. His commitment, work rate and drive inspire those around him and I know how proud he is to lead this team onto the field on match days.
While a lot of focus has been on exciting off-field plans recently, the senior squad has remained fully focused on what happens on the field. I see the hard work and effort our players put in across the entire year. The pride they have in pulling on the famous Wanderers shirt and how much it means to them to represent the club. I would ask that all members please make a special effort to come out and support the players on match days. Running out in front of a vociferous home crowd at Merrion Road means so much to all involved and your support is the most important thing to the players. Whether you're a member of 50+ years or a newcomer, your contribution is invaluable as we aim to write a new successful chapter in Wanderers storied book.
Eoin Sheriff,
Head Coach Senior Squad
