Do you know the real reason behind Nial Clancy`s frequent disappearances on the Stillorgan Dual Carraigeway?
Well, i took a lift with him twice at the start of the season. On both occasions we were late, and I had to field the calls from Dom, despite being entirely blameless. After that i decided that the extra 20 minutes travelling by the Dart were worth it to avoid any more mental anguish. As to where he goes...
Your biggest Fear last season:
On the pitch: high balls of any sort. There's a reason props like to hide behind second rows during kick-offs.
Off the pitch: Adam Redmond hauling me up in the Kangaroo Court and charging me with various ridiculous offences, which were really just his anger at me being faster than him. I woke up the next day with a thumping head, a cut under my eye and penises drawn all over my arms...
What other position would you have liked to have played?
Wing. As well as recording the fastest time of the front five out at Irishtown (despite Dom's comments on my running style), I always kept Bucko quiet whenever i stood in at wing during training. Bucko fears Manion...
What will you miss most about the J4s this season?
The craic around the clubhouse. We had a great squad last year and it can only get better this year. Add to this the new efforts to improve the general club atmosphere and i reckon i've picked a bad year to move...
Also, having my email inbox brimming with links to scrummaging videos and lineout calls.
Who will you miss the most from the J4s this season ?
The whole squad, although Gav Kane's cheeky grin does stand out.
Do you think that Nial Clancy will ever turn up on time for training this season?
Without my positive influence, Clancy will struggle to make it for half-time.
Editors Note: Owen will be a huge loss to the squad, both as a player and as a individual. He`s been a member of Wanderers for the last 5/6 years, playing from U20s to J1s and showed himself to be an accomplished player.
Capable of propping, hooking ,playing second row and also the occasional appearance at blindside flank. He was always happy to be in the thick of the action , doing the “dirty work” but was also well capable of a good turn of pace when the opportunity arose.
On one memorable occasion he actually out paced Dave McKeating and missed his off load(yes Dave the speed/stamina sessions in I Town were that good!)
Owen was also a great clubman off the field, encouraging and supporting new members, willing to laugh at himself, and mixing with all .
Whatever club Owen joins will be getting a valuable player and a quality individual.
